Lending to Julia in the Philipines
I made a loan today to Julia. Julia Gorgonio is from the village of Katutungan, Wao, Lanao del Sur. She is 57 years old. Julia is married and has 4 adult children. To make a living, Julia owns & operates a sari-sari (variety) retail shop. The main source of income for the business comes from selling both food & daily use products in the local community. Julia has been engaged in her business for over 8 years and earns approximately 3,500 PHP a month for these activities. In 2008, Julia joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Julia has successfully repaid a previous loan of 5,000 PHP from HSPFI. This previous loan was used to purchase additional products to sell. Julia is requesting a new loan of 8,000 PHP which will be used to purchase additional inventory and as working capital. This will be the 7th loan taken out by Julia from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to supplement the income of the family.

Student loan through Vittana
I made my first student microloan through Vittana today. I made a loan to Munhtuya B So she can go to medical school in Mongolia.
I would never have been able to get any of my university degrees (including the Ph.D. from Yale) without the help of student loans. I am very grateful I lived in countries that offered them to students without credit.
And I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to help others with their dream.
