Kiva loans to Mexico

I made a loan today to Julián Robledo López in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

The exterior of Julián Robledo’s house is not finished. He does not have the money to buy the material. He will take charge of making the improvement. He does the construction and repairs on his house. Julián is a family man. He has four minor children, and he would like to give them the best.

There is a theory called 'the broken glass' where neighbourhoods have less crime when there is less broken glass and graffiti around. I wonder if this loan to make the house look better will have effects like that.

Kiva and Obama

Had a Kiva morning, spending hours with Joe (Skeeboo) in second life, learning about our new holodeck. We will be able to recreate many different scenes. Will come in handy in our office.

This afternoon was the Obama BBQ with over 50 people showing up. I finally got to put faces to names. There were several other events in LA that day, so I didn't get to see everyone. Signed us up for a few parades. I've never been in a parade before. And now I appear to be organizing 3 of them! Doo Dahing and all.

I made two kiva loans today, 'cause I wanted to. I know there were only 20 loans left. But I wanted to lend to Nataliya for her clothing business in the Ukraine, I've been looking at her picture for days now. And I haven't had a loan to Mexcio in a while. So Sra. Adriana Gonzalez has a clothing store in Mexico .

Smiles in Mexico

I got repaid on a loan today and used the credit to lend to Candelaria and Maria Antonia (and possibly others in the group). I just love the smiles. I hope they do really well.

New lending strategy

Its always hard to decide on loans. So many variables to choose from. I do have a lending strategy, I tend to lend to people from Honduras, seamstresses, people called Julia, people from countries I haven't loaned to, and people from other Latin American countries, specifically Mexico. Thanks to Agents of Change I have an interest in Mexico.

so today I decided to lend to the oldest loan from Mexico. Noe Muñoz Cornejo is in Acuna and wants money to add a room to his house. These types of loans aren't as popular on Kiva, but it will eventually get funded.

House loans in Mexico

I'm lending to a Mexican Kiva lender who wants money to build a house. They bought the land a few years ago and are paying rent, and need the initial capital to build. There are lenders who don't like this type of loan, because it doesn't directly affect a business and there isn't any guarantee that they will have the funds to pay it back. There is no descriptions that they work and can afford it, and there is more faith in these types of loans.

Well I have faith, I think the MFI has screened them to make sure they aren't burdened with the loan payments. And I think that they will actually work really hard to make sure they pay the loan, because they really want their own house. And on the flip side, its $25 to me. So I think the risks and rewards are worth the payoff.

I've been building in SL a lot lately, I see the need for houses..
